Now that my clothing swap prep and preliminary fun is over, I want to share how much I love the idea of clothing swaps!
For those not familiar with the concept, it's basically what it sounds like. You get a group of friends together with the clothes that don't fit you or you don't like anymore, and then you exchange clothes. If enough of you bring a lot of clothes, each of you can leave with a whole new wardrobe! Let's face it, sometimes we get tired of our wardrobe and want to switch up our style a bit. Or maybe a weight loss or weight gain means there's now a closet full of clothing that doesn't fit anymore.
This is the first time I've ever organized one, but it's great! People are still feeling the affects of the recession, so it's a great way to get new clothes without having to buy them. Instant money-saver! I love finding ways to cut costs and live a bit more frugally (especially while saving up for Europe). Food and shelter is expensive enough in NYC without worrying about replenishing my wardrobe all the time. As it is, I keep clothes for years and years -- a fact I discovered while going through my closets for this clothing swap.
More on my clothing swap coming up!
Part 2 is here.
