I must say that this trend of giving away food and beverages on Election Day is on the one hand brilliant, and on the other quite bizarre. I think it's an odd way to celebrate voting, particularly since it screws with my new health kick. But I love free food, so I'll give you a run-down of what's going on:
There was a Starbucks commercial during SNL that said they'll give a free cup of coffee to everyone who votes. Apparently, if you live in a state with no proof of voting, then you don't need to give Starbucks anything other than your word. But if you do, then you have to turn your sticker in! I will try to get a coffee without doing that, but if they insist, then they can keep their darn coffee. I'd rather have my "I Voted" sticker than a stupid cup of coffee. (I told y'all I'm obsessed with voting.)
ETA: I drafted this post yesterday, and am bummed to say that I didn't even get a darn sticker this morning! They better give me coffee now!
Ben & Jerry's is giving out a free scoop from 5-8 p.m. Vote or no vote, according to Facebook. SWEET! I'll be heading on over there on my way home from work so I can enjoy Election Day coverage with a yummy treat in my tummy.
Some Krispy Kremes are giving out free star-shaped donuts for their Hot Vote Now campaign. I don't think I'll be heading over to my nearest Krispy Kreme to find out if they're a participating location. It's out of my way and if there are no free donuts, I would be upset.
Apparently all of this free food stuff is illegal in California. I don't know anything about that, but California readers can check it out and see if the offers will still be available.
Happy Eating & Electing!
